I want to add, it takes awhile to learn your market and how to display and price your goods. Also, I have noticed certain areas have too many sellers, such as hand beaded jewelry (I’m in Minnesota). I have a niche product, American Girl doll clothes, so if there is another seller at a show, I don’t do very well because there are only so many families with a girl the right age. Baked goods, in our state you can sell up to $1000 worth before you need public health to inspect your kitchen facilities. You can sell baked goods at farmers markets too, the Amish do that around here.

go to the chamber of commerce and get on their mailing list for craft faires! Check with them also if you need a city license to sell the stuff or a county license. Get a tax license from the state and Feds.

everyone wants a piece of the pie that you are making. Especially the governor!!! Well, at least the governor of NM wants a nice slice of the pie!!

Some towns require a business license, some counties require a business license, most states require a business license. This is all taxes!

do u guys have swap meets or craft fairs… you have to pay to get a spot so suggest you share a spot with ure friends and you can all sell ure crafts and split the price of the lot.. better profit that way its jus the space that u may be short on but they r pretty generous… thats wat i did…

Do a Google search for, “craft fairs in 2008+flint, michigan” and you should be able to come up with a lot of ideas.

Once a week or so, go to your newspaper website and use their search tool for “craft fair”, “craft show”, “craft sale” and “crafters wanted.” They usually start advertising 2 months ahead of time for the crafters to sign up. You can also search for last year’s events and call the people to ask if they will be having it again this year. Good luck! It can be a lot of fun.
